…a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
Thought for the Day: In the movie Gravity, Astronaut Matt Kowalsky (played by George Clooney) asks Dr. Ryan Stone (played by Sandra Bullock) what she likes about space. She says, “The silence. I could get used to it.” One of the unnamed characters in the movie is the silence that is both peaceful and terrifying. Though very few of us will probably ever have the experience of space, I believe our earthly experiences of silence can be both peaceful and terrifying. For many people, the unknown is what keeps them from investigating silence in the first place. There is a time for noise and chatter, but there is a time for silence. Don’t be afraid of it. The peace that is found within silence surpasses any fear it might provoke.
Prayer: Continue to beckon me into moments of faithful growth, Loving Lord. Continue to invite me into times of quiet reflection even when the deafening silence may cause me some fear. Amen.
