Scripture: Proverbs 22:7
The words of the wise: Incline your ear and hear my words, and apply your mind to my teaching…
Thought for the Day: I have taken a few days off during the Klein Spring Break to spend time with my son. The rain and cooler weather has put a bit of a damper on our plans, and so I have done something that is a bit rare for me – I’ve turned on the TV during the daytime. I’m pretty certain you already know this, but there is a lot of garbage on TV right now. Not all of it is daytime programing as there are commercials for trashy programs in the evening. With that in mind, I would like to suggest that the culture is to blame for a lot of our problems, but instead of pointing toward the culture, I want to direct our attention back on Christianity. There are so called “Christian” reality shows that are an insult to the values of simplicity, compassion and grace revealed in the life of Jesus. We may not watch these shows, but by our silence, we allow them to completely redefine the core values of the Jesus-life. What the world takes away is nothing more than selfishness, narcissism and indifference that is commercially blessed by employing the name of Jesus in such a way that it is nothing short of blasphemy (not a word I use easily or indiscriminately).
Prayer: Lord God, give us the courage to speak, not with arrogance, but with boldness to the countercultural values revealed in the life of our savior, Jesus. Amen.
