Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Psalm 24:1
The earth is the LORD’s and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants too.

Thought for the Day: I want to thank Paula for bringing a wonderful message yesterday morning. During the 8:15 service as Paula was preaching, a bird kept on pecking and flying into the window. This didn’t happen once or twice, but nonstop throughout her sermon and for the remainder of the service. There was one point toward the end of the sermon that I wanted to standup and yell, “Let the bird in. It clearly wants to hear the message.” Later as Paula was calling us to the Communion Table and the bird was still making a clicking sound on the glass, she wanted to (as she later told me) turn around and say, “When we say ALL are welcome, I guess that includes the bird who is making all the noise.” Come to find out, Rev. Karl Decker later went outside and gave the bird some of the leftover Communion bread.  I guess if we truly believe that the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, then we  ought to see all of God’s creation as worthy of the magnificent feast of grace – even if we have to bring the meal outside.

Prayer: All your creation, O Living God, shall inspire appreciation and joy within me. You declared it as good, and I will strive to live in such a way as to honor its goodness. Amen.
