Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Genesis 1:20
And God said, “Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky.”

Thought for the Day: I know bats are not technically birds, but notice how scripture says they are to fly above the earth and across the dome of the sky. It does not say they should fly in the sanctuary. If you are confused, that’s ok. It only means that you did not hear that we have bats in the main sanctuary (the Centrum).  It has been a frustrating experience, for my seminary education did not teach the proper response to bats in the belfry.  The cost of removal will take a big chunk of our current surplus, but in the midst of this headache, I was reminded by an email that the location of 200 Nigerian girls kidnapped last spring is still unknown. In the grand scheme of things, bats flying in the narthex of the Centrum instead of outside is really rather insignificant. Yes, we need to take care of this unexpected problem, but we also cannot take our attention off the real issues facing our world, the issues that break God’s heart.

Prayer: Keep my vision clear, O Lord of All Living Creatures, for I want to participate in the own going work of healing and transformation. Amen.
