Scripture: Exodus 29:5-7
Then you shall take the vestments, and put on Aaron the tunic and the robe of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastpiece, and gird him with the decorated band of the ephod; and you shall set the turban on his head, and put the holy diadem on the turban. You shall take the anointing oil, and pour it on his head and anoint him.
Thought for the Day: Later today, we will officially install Rev. Brian Edwards as our Associate Minister of Family Life. There probably won’t be quite the regalia that was found in the blessing of Aaron, and though it is an important event, I don’t think people will be reading about it 3000 years from now…but who knows? What I do know is that we are bringing alive the rituals of scripture, and by doing so, we are more firmly connecting ourselves to the ancient stories of our faith. Some people will roll their eyes at the thought of symbolism and ceremony, but all the lectures and study do not have the same impact as participatory ritual. Plan to be there this afternoon at 3pm for the blessing of Brian Edwards, but also allow yourself to engage the fullness of this ancient happening.
Prayer: As you, Lord, called Brian to give leadership in the life of our church, may we honor this calling with a celebrative service. Amen.
