Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Ephesians 4:22-23
You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self, corrupt and deluded by its lusts, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Thought for the Day: For those who did not see it, I clothed myself on Sunday in a vintage powder-blue leisure suit (see below). I was looking pretty hip, though I am regularly reminded by my wife that by using the word “hip” I am demonstrating how unhip I really am.  I want to thank Guy and Pam Johnson for exploring their attic to retrieve that beauty.

The act of putting on an outfit, specifically a costume or vintage look, has a tendency to draw something unique out of us. People have said that clothes make the man, and though I don’t know if that statement is entirely accurate, what we do put on can shape our attitude and perspective. The same is true when it comes to clothing our spirits in the likeness of God, in true right-living and holiness. This act must be intentional, each and every day. As Paul suggests – the old self: corrupt and lustful – is hanging in the closet and ready to be put on. If we are not deliberate in finding the attitude that will convey the likeness of God, we will have a tendency to toss on whatever is close at hand…and it probably won’t be God-like.

Prayer: Give me exceptional taste in spiritual clothing, O Righteous and Holy God, for I want my life to declare you. Amen.

The Seder Meal is the Jewish celebration of the Exodus Story during Passover.
The meal itself is a teaching experience, and it was this meal that Jesus
shared the night of his betrayal and arrest. Come and learn the Jewish
origin of this meal, led by a local Jewish Cantor.
