Scripture: Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be loyal to the one and have contempt for the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
Thought for the Day: Why can’t I serve two masters…or maybe three? There are plenty of people trying, and if we were to be honest, we all have divided loyalties. Many of them are unnamed or even unrecognized, yet we should always be in the business of prayerful discernment. It is hard work, even painful to acknowledge a loyalty that is neither healthy nor holy. Today, let us be steadfast in the work of being loyal to Jesus and his ways of love, mercy and generosity. These are amazingly high ideals, and every loyalty beyond Jesus will provide excuses for why we are unable to pursue Jesus. They will always be excellent excuses, but the world is not needing more excuses. The world needs those who model the ongoing work of growing in loyalty to Jesus and his ways.
Prayer: Lord, I am so easily distrac……… Sorry, I got distracted. Lord, I am so easily distracted. Draw me close and remind me of the joy found in a loving and loyal relationship with you. Amen.
