Scripture: Acts 4:7-9
They had Peter and John brought before them and asked, “By what power or in what name did you do this?” Then Peter, inspired by the Holy Spirit, answered, “Leaders of the people and elders, are we being examined today because something good was done for a sick person, a good deed that healed him?
Thought for the Day: Have you ever been in a situation where someone’s personal agenda or unresolved anger about some unrelated happening has caused the church to lose focus? Peter and John have been arrested, and now they stand before folks of power who don’t like what Peter and John are doing. Of course, that’s not the complaint they publicly acknowledge. Instead, they make it convoluted and spin things to put themselves among the righteous. Peter’s response is fabulous, though the writer of Acts is quick to point out how the Holy Spirit helped. Peter points out how all the spin and the attempted smokescreen do not take away from the Good News of a man’s healing. It’s a good reminder to us all that side issues can push out the Gospel if we are not mindful of who we are and what we have been called to do.
Prayer: Keep me on point, O Giver of the Gospel. Keep me, God, pushing ahead with complete focus on those whom Jesus has called me to serve. Amen.
