Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Acts 24:15-16
I have a hope in God—a hope that they themselves also accept—that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. Therefore I do my best always to have a clear conscience toward God and all people.

Thought for the Day: In the above passage, Paul is in the midst of a speech in which he makes a rather dramatic statement about the final resurrection.  Paul claims a hope that both the righteous and the unrighteous will be raised. There have been many who have tried to dismiss these words, but for Paul, his understanding of God’s grace is extravagant and far-reaching. What I appreciate about this claim is how it affects Paul. He will judge neither God nor other people because he respects God’s decision. Whether we think Paul was correct or not with these words, what if we joined Paul and started treating all people as if we would see them in the final resurrection?

Prayer: With your help, O Gracious God, I hope to see only the beauty and goodness of each and every person. Amen.
