Scripture: Acts 1:6
John baptized with water, but in only a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
Thought for the Day: This is a part of Sunday’s scripture. In fact, Acts 1:3-8 will be our focus scripture for the next five Sundays. The resurrected Jesus is talking with his disciples about the baptism of the Spirit that is coming soon. Though we don’t celebrate the gift of the Spirit until Pentecost Sunday (six weeks away), Jesus uses the opening words of Acts to prepare his disciples for that gift that is coming, and the mission that will be empowered by that gift. For this series entitled, “Jerusalem at our Back,” we will reflect on the mission in advance of the Pentecost gift of the Spirit. In this time, will explore the questions:
1. Where might God be calling us to go?
2. What hinders our understanding of calling?
3. How does the Spirit guide us?
Let’s be ready to put God’s vision before us as we put Jerusalem behind us.
Prayer: I wish to be prepared, O Voice of Grace, to hear your calling. Make space in my life that I might respond, but even more importantly, provide me enough space just to be aware that you are calling. Amen.
