Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: 1st Samuel 3:10
Now the Lord came and stood there, calling as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Thought for the Day: Samuel hears the voice of God numerous times, but does not recognize it initially. If you were to guess, how often has God extended an invitation to you that you did not recognize? It is difficult to sort out the voice of God from all the other voices around us. A dog trainer I met years ago talked about getting a dog to hear the voice of its master over all the other distractions. After hearing her say that, I thought to myself, “I need to find me a good human trainer.” As you grow in your relationship with God, become more familiar with who God is and what God does. If you do so, there will be a better chance of finding that voice amidst the cacophony of sounds that surround us. Don’t assume it will come easy.

Prayer: May your voice of grace whisper to my spirit, O Holy God, and may I learn to comprehend the meaning of that grace. Amen.
