Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Philippians 2:3-4
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.

Thought for the Day: Our own Larry Lipton helps to organize a monthly Public Safety Forum here in Northwest Houston, and he sends regular email updates. Recently, he sent an announcement that included a list of the PCT 4 Constable calls for the week of April 2 – 8. Along with the 23 calls for auto theft, 41 for criminal mischief and another 128 for car accidents, I was stunned to see that the largest number of calls (150) was for domestic violence. Not that I want more car accidents, but it is troubling that we have more calls for domestic violence in our community than calls for car accidents. The author, Frederick Buechner, has written that “vocation is where our greatest passion meets the world’s greatest need.” Maybe in our Dare to Dream program, someone’s greatest passion will meet this extraordinarily troubling need in our community.

Prayer: Be our partner in this time of discernment, Creator God, as we look at our gifts and the places where those gifts might come to life. Amen.

We Are Daring To Dream
