Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Psalm 25:4-5
Make your ways known to me, LORD; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth—teach it to me— because you are the God who saves me. I put my hope in you all day long.

Thought for the Day: I offer you these two quotes:

“The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays.”
~Søren Kierkegaard

“Prayer is not asking. Prayer is putting oneself in the hands of God, at His disposition, and listening to His voice in the depth of our hearts.”
~Mother Teresa

Prayer is depicted in so many unhealthy ways, but at the end of the day, it is a place of great vulnerability where we relinquish ourselves to the forming and shaping of God. In the last month, I have spent time praying for the church and specific members who have requested prayer. I have also set aside a separate time in which I have attempted to present myself to God for whatever God is needing. So far there has not been any single WOW moment, but there have been a number of challenges and critiques (for lack of a better word) of certain parts of my character and priorities. This can be a bit uncomfortable, yet if there is a relationship and trust with God, there is contentment in the knowledge that the end result will be better.

Prayer: Lord, shape me – form me. As I sit with you in prayer, allow your Spirit to make me into the person who will do the needed work of Kingdom building. Amen.
