FROM LAST YEAR’S DEVOTIONALS
Scripture: Psalm 118:24
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Thought for the Day: Those might be some of the most familiar words found in scripture, and they are spoken in so many different settings. Over the years, I have heard those words offered at weddings, funerals and many rituals of celebration. Depending on what word or phrase you emphasize, it slightly changes how the passage is heard. Over the last two weeks (again, this was a year ago), I have started my days with these words by placing the emphasis on the word this. It has been a good reminder that this day is no different than other days, for THIS is the day the Lord has made… Since THIS day and each day belongs to God, we need to be aware of the amazing possibilities this day holds. Let’s not focus on yesterday or tomorrow, but on THIS day. Michael Slaughter, the author of our study book (Dare to Dream) writes, “I believe that someday is the enemy to the gift of today.” Join me in saying, “THIS is the day that the Lord has made…”
Prayer: THIS is the day you have made, O Lord, and I shall rejoice and show my gladness by seeking all the unique opportunities contained in this 24-hour period. Amen.
