Scripture: Colossians 3:12
As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.
Thought for the Day: Paul is talking to the faithful, yet he needs to remind them even again about the qualities associated with being a follower of Jesus. Those five words carry with them no surprise to anyone who has been in church more than two or three times, and in theory, most of us would hope to embody them all. It was true of the Colossians, yet Paul still needed to remind them of how putting on Jesus Christ (Romans 13:14) meant clothing yourself with the attributes associated with Jesus Christ. Let us continue to remind one another of how to follow Jesus by imitating the most central attributes of his life. It may not seem possible, yet Jesus felt confident enough to say that his followers would do even greater works than he (John 14:12). We surely won’t if we do not take these beautiful characteristics seriously.
Prayer: Come alive within me, Lord Jesus. Make your life visible in mine. Amen.
