Scripture: Deuteronomy 10:12-13
Now in light of all that, Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you? Only this: to revere the LORD your God by walking in all his ways, by loving him, by serving the LORD your God with all your heart and being, and by keeping the LORD’s commandments and his regulations that I’m commanding you right now. It’s for your own good!
Thought for the Day: In seems like an extensive list of things God is asking. We are to:
-Revere the Lord
-Walk in the ways of the Lord
-Serve the Lord with everything we have
-Keep the Lord’s commandments
-Keep the Lord’s regulations
Too often people become overloaded by the list and miss the closing piece. According to the last phrase, it is for our own good. It is not about perfection or feeling overly stressed about every minuscule detail. It is about finding our place in the ongoing work of the Lord, and living there to the fullest of our ability. Now that doesn’t mean we have an escape clause with the graciousness of God, but we should embrace the call as a loving invitation into a life where meaning and value shall be found.
Prayer: You ask, O Lord, and I shall follow as best I can. Ask, and I’m certain I will stumble many times along the way, yet I trust your grace to encourage me to continue for the sake of the Kingdom. Amen.
