Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Luke 12:16-17
Then Jesus told them a parable: “The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, “What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?”

Thought for the Day: Too often this rich man is portrayed as wicked, like someone who made his wealth illegally or by taking advantage of others. This is not true. In fact, the man seems somewhat surprised by his good fortune. The parable sets up a basic, yet very important question: What should I do? Jesus tells us a rather simple story, yet in doing so, he challenges his listeners with the central question of the Christian life. The man in the parable will answer this question without God’s opinion, yet as readers, we’re left asking: Will God’s opinion play a role in my answer?

Prayer: Remain both persistent and patient with me, Lord, as I listen for your voice and allow that voice to guide my response. Amen.
