Scripture: Romans 11:6
But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace would no longer be grace.
Thought for the Day: Grace is a difficult concept as it moves from theory to true life situations. O sure, we understand how we are embraced by God’s merciful love, and not by our actions. That seems easy to grasp. It suddenly becomes thorny and complex when we deal with those who may not fit our idea of a good person or someone whose understanding of God is dramatically different than our own. All of sudden we have turned people’s actions or their theologies into a work that will define whether or not they fall under the grace of God. Any attempt to sneak works into a definition of grace is to create something that is no longer grace. What would happen if the church stopped the petty bickering over how gracious is grace, and just started embodying the astonishing grace demonstrated in the life of Jesus?
Prayer: Lord, through the humble work of Christ Jesus, may I begin to grasp the depth of true grace. Amen.
