Scripture: Ephesians 2:10
For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
Thought for the Day: Yesterday evening we returned from a quick trip to Kansas City where I had the honor of presiding at my niece’s wedding. It was a glorious occasion. Upon arriving at home a little before 7pm, we were in the mood for some dinner…but we didn’t want to get back in the car and drive even a short distance. So we looked in the refrigerator and the cupboards, and let’s just say the options were limited. I wouldn’t call it inspiration or divine revelation, but what I created wasn’t too bad—a little Italian dish with mushrooms, black olives and a lot of garlic.
Too often, we look at what we have and assume scarcity and insufficiency. This is not simply in regard to material items, but our own skills and abilities. We can look inside of our spiritual cupboard and see nothing of value. That’s where God’s creative spirit can reveal abundance where we saw only emptiness. We were created for the good works of God, and though we may not always see it, we (collectively) have been prepared to do many good things.
Prayer: Creative God, continue to create within us all a sense of the possible… especially when the first words to our mouth are: It’s impossible. Amen.
