Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: 2nd Corinthians 11:28
And, besides other things, I am under daily pressure because of my anxiety for all the churches.

Thought for the Day: Big changes are in the works at Cypress Creek Christian Church. With Karen Gordley retiring last week after ten years as the church office manager, and then Rev. Clara Lewis announcing her retirement date, life at the church appears to be in flux. Even for the most hopeful and positive people, change can bring anxiety. I’ll confess some of my own. Yet it is good to know that people like the Apostle Paul felt anxiety when it came to church life. His situation was a bit different, but like us, his anxiousness was rooted in a love of God and the community of faith. Like many of you, I have seen a great deal of change within churches — both as a member and as a pastor. Yet through it all, I have always seen a real passion for the church to remain faithful to God and the mission. I think the anxiousness, like that seen in Paul, comes from the deep yearning to not let God down. Let us trust that God has great dreams for us, but equally important, let us trust that God has used many faithful people to build the needed foundation for those new dreams to grow into reality.

Prayer: You are good to us, O Holy God, and we give you thanks for all those who have given so much to make Cypress Creek Christian Church the place it is today. Allow us to stretch ourselves toward new dreams, always trusting that we stretch from a rock solid foundation. Amen.
