Scripture: Psalm 119:130
The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.
Thought for the Day: You’ve probably been seeing a lot of plecia nearctica around. That’s the little insect better known as the Lovebug or the Honeymoon Fly. As I was mowing the lawn yesterday, they were thick and annoying. I said out loud, “I wish these Lovebugs would get lost”, but as I said those words, I realized how strange it was to associate the term love with something so irritating. The insect doesn’t know any better. In fact, they’re just doing their thing with no intention of causing me aggravation. I believe a lot of our relationships are very similar. We have no intention of irritating others as we go about doing whatever it is that we are doing, but whatever it is clearly irritates some folks.
After I thought about it for a few moments, I found that the Lovebugs didn’t bother me quite as much. In understanding that their intention was never to irritate me personally, I found myself less irritated by their presence. How often do people irritate us, yet their intention was never to do so. Could knowing that there was never any ill intent help reduce the annoyance a little?
Prayer: Unfold your words of grace and patience, O Lord, so that my goal of understanding may be achieved. Amen.
