PART 1
Understanding-The First of the Sevenfold Gifts, St. Bonaventure
First, grant us the gift of understanding, by which your teachings may enlighten our minds.
Scripture: Proverbs 2:6
For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
Thought for the Day: I’m still waiting for the day when God speaks audibly and clearly in regard to the meaning and purpose of life. It would be nice to have God cut through the multitude of opinions and world views, and that’s just among us Christians. To be honest, I’m not sitting around waiting for this to occur. In many ways, I believe it has already occurred…just not as clearly as we would like. Jesus is described as the Word made flesh. This wisdom and knowledge that springs from the mouth of God is not something that can be contained in human speech, but came to life in the person we know as Jesus. His ministry from birth to death to resurrection gives us a glimpse into what God desires to have expressed to the world. People often say, “I’d rather see a sermon than hear a sermon,” and maybe God understood the necessity of bringing the divine sermon to life.
Prayer: May I understand your ways, O Heavenly King, in the ways of Jesus. Amen.
