PART 1
Courage: the third of the Sevenfold Gifts, St. Bonaventure
Third, grant us courage, by which we may ward off the attack of evil.
Scripture: Psalm 118:24
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Thought for the Day: E.B. White once wrote, “I can’t decide whether to enjoy the world or improve the world; that makes it difficult to plan the day.” As I consider these words in light of my own understanding of faith, I cannot accept an either-or scenario. As we enjoy the world, our joyful spirits are improving it. And as we consciously work to improve it, we are able to more fully enjoy it. Some will ask, “Where do I begin?” I believe we only need the courage to jump in, and when we do, we’ll find ourselves in this wonderful circle of celebration and service, relishing and refining.
Prayer: O Creator God, give me the courage to both enjoy this magnificent creation while always finding ways of making it even more enjoyable for more and more people. Amen.
