PART 2
Courage: the third of the Sevenfold Gifts, St. Bonaventure
Third, grant us courage, by which we may ward off the attack of evil.
I’ve always appreciated the words of Eleanor Roosevelt who said, “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’”
Courage creates confidence, and growing confidence brings about courage. With the Christian faith, we need to help people find opportunities to practice their courage. That is, create opportunities for people to stretch themselves, grow in their trust of God, build confidence and grow in their sense of faith-based courage. What could you do today that would help you practice a little courage?
