Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Romans 8:24-25
For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen?  But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Thought for the Day: I was taken by this quote from Paul Hawken, “When asked if I am pessimistic or optimistic about the future, my answer is always the same: If you look at the science about what is happening on earth and aren’t pessimistic, you don’t understand the data. But if you meet the people who are working to restore this earth and the lives of the poor, and you aren’t optimistic, you haven’t got a pulse.”  There is so much that can draw a person to pessimism and hopelessness, but the one thing that tilts the scale the other direction is the power of God working in the hearts and hands of humanity.  At every moment when cynicism seems to have claimed the day, I find resurrection.  It may not appear all that significant to the eyes of many, but it is there…without question.  Our faith has us grafted to the God who is more than the eternal optimist  God is the ultimate victor.

Prayer: Grant me, Holy God, the vision to see your hope-filled expressions that are around me in every moment.  Amen.
