Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Psalm 7:6-8
Get up, LORD; get angry! Stand up against the fury of my foes! Wake up, my God; you command that justice be done! Let the assembled peoples surround you. Rule them from on high! The LORD will judge the peoples. Establish justice for me, LORD, according to my righteousness and according to my integrity.

Thought for the Day: Justice is a central idea throughout scripture. God demands justice for the weak, marginalized, poor, widows and orphans. Justice is something that God demands, yet there is often a delay between God’s demand and the actual execution of justice in our world. Just the other day, the former president of Chad was convicted of Crimes Against Humanity – including: sex slavery, rape and ethnic cleansing. This process took 17 years, though some of those who were imprisoned by this man two decades ago committed to getting justice no matter how long it took. Some of those who were brutalized died during this 17 year trek, but I am thankful for those who refused to give up. Where else has justice remained only a dream? What is required of those of us who claim to follow the Lord of Justice?

Prayer: Help me keep the faith, O Gracious Lord, even when your kingdom of justice appears to be an unattainable vision. Keep waking me every morning with a passion to love and serve, promote justice and kingdom building. Amen.
