Ecclesiological Etchings

Pentecost-Promo

Scripture: Acts 2:1-3
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them.

Thought for the Day: One of my favorite theologians is Jurgen Moltmann who wrote a defining book in my own faith journey entitled, A Theology of Hope. Moltmann wrote in Pentecost and Theology of Life:

Whoever prays for the Holy Spirit to come to us, into our hearts, into our community and to our earth does not want to flee to heaven or be removed to the great beyond. They have hope for their hearts, for their community and this earth. We do not pray ‘Let your kingdom come…’ we pray ‘Your kingdom come…on earth as it is in heaven’. Magnificent unbroken affirmation of life lies behind this prayer for the divine Spirit to come to us fragile and earthly human beings.

On this Pentecost Sunday, let us prepare ourselves to be overwhelmed by the Spirit of God who does not bring us together to create an escape plan, but through the empowerment of this Spirit, we are to participate in a plan that will transform the world.

Prayer: Come, Holy Spirit, come! Bring your message of grace, your Gospel of salvation, your unifying presence. Come, Holy Spirit, and make us whole…all of us, all of creation. Amen.
