Devotional by Sheila Gillett
Scripture:I John 4:7-8
“Dear Friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God, Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.”
Thought for the Day: I flew to Denver recently to officiate at a wedding for my Pops (Father-in-law) and his fiancé, Priscilla; a widower and widow. Life throws us curves, but you are never too old to find love and companionship. It was truly amazing to see the love in the eyes of both and the tears of happiness during the wedding. Their honeymoon night was visiting with family and keeping grandkids overnight. What a joy & irony! But then I flew home to Houston, to another life curve, one of sadness and loss. Again tears, but this time of sadness as I attended the Memorial Service of a friend of so many years I cannot count. Burley was a mentor for Baptism for my son so long ago; yet my son was impacted by that event forever. My son visited the hospital and attended the Memorial. The story he remembered was that Burley knew every make and model of cars and trucks. Everywhere we go, whatever we do, whoever’s lives we touch—it could be a God moment! We never know when God is using our faith to touch others. Yes, there will be tears of joy and tears of sadness, but aren’t life’s curves worth the risk of touching others?
Prayer: Precious Lord, show us how to love one another. Teach us that both the good times and the sad are worth the effort of love. Lord, we thank you for the model of love poured out through your Son, our Savior, our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.
