Scripture: Proverbs 12:15
Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to advice.
Thought for the Day: The author and voice of Motel 6, Tom Bodett, wrote that “in school, you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson.” The Proverbs are full of very practical and commonsense thoughts, yet I wonder how many of them were divinely inspired through prayer alone – and how many of them were inspired by life-experiences that left God saying, “I tried to tell you.” Some human beings appear to be hardwired in such a way that they can learn the lessons in other people’s mistakes, but other people are warned again and again only to discover firsthand that they should have heeded those warnings in the first place. Being in community, like the church, gives us gracious support as we learn life lessons, whether we learn those from others or our own mistakes.
Prayer: You have been gracious to us, Creator God, even when we have made the mistakes you so often warned us about. Let me continue to learn. Amen.
