Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Galatians 3:27-29
All of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither slave nor free; nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Now if you belong to Christ, then indeed you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to the promise.

Thought for the Day: It is thought that these words were not original to Paul. They were probably part of the church’s early baptismal liturgy, and they expressed what God does in the waters of baptism. Our English translation loses the passive nature of the act from the perspective of the one being baptized. God is acting in the waters, and the end result is something culture, business and government are incapable of doing. People of greatly diverse backgrounds are brought together through the common experience of the love of God in Christ.

Prayer: Though we are created differently, O God, you draw us together with a common purpose of gracious and just living.  Assist us as we continue to live out the work of the baptismal waters.  Amen.
