Scripture: Proverb 3:6 (the Message)
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Thought for the Day: I just recently watched a young man, maybe 8 or 9 years old, who demonstrated an amazing level of maturity and sensitivity. It was clearly a difficult family situation, yet this young boy showed many qualities of a parent to his younger siblings… more than just an older brother who might be asked to keep a watch over the younger ones. This boy had an awareness of the real needs of one younger brother in particular, but also had the skills in both language and conduct to be able to guide the littler one. It is often said that some children have ‘an old soul’. I don’t know if that’s true, but there did appear to be a wisdom beyond what this young man’s height and age might initially reveal. Not only did I appreciate what I witnessed, but there was something to be learned. God’s voice can find a mouthpiece in some unexpected places. With that in mind, no matter the things we are doing or the places we are going, let us be mindful of the unpredictable ways by which God might reveal an important word to us.
Prayer: I’m okay with a little surprise, Lord. In fact, it might awaken something new within me that needs to be awakened. Give voice to something I need, and I will do my best to both pay attention and respond in a faithful way. Amen.
