Scripture: Psalm 30:11
You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
Thought for the Day: Last night, I was finally able to live the dream I have been dreaming for over a year. Yes, I was able to shop at the new Whole Foods on Louetta. Though it is not as large as the one we used to visit in Naples, it was good…and more importantly, they had my freshly baked vegan chocolate chip cookies. It was a good night, and though there was no emotional clothing switch – sackcloth to joy – it was a wonderful experience.
Upon returning home, with bits of vegan chocolate chunks still in my teeth, I read an article that spoke of the 168 children rescued from human trafficking this week in a massive operation by law enforcement. All of these children were American, and many of them had previously been abandoned or never reported as missing. But there were some whose families had been desperately searching for them, and tears were shed as families were reunited. All of a sudden my vegan chocolate chip cookie didn’t quite have the same joy-producing power as it had just a few hours earlier. God is in the business of bringing people home (emotionally, spiritually and physically), and when even one person experiences that homecoming, it brings a joy that not even the best vegan chocolate chip cookie could touch.
Prayer: We live in a world of lost souls, yet you – Lord – are all about turning the grief of separation into the joy of reunion. Thank you! Amen.
