This will be a memorial day for you; you will celebrate it as a festival to God down through the generations, a fixed festival celebration to be observed always.

Moses and Aaron were learning how they and the entire community were to celebrate an important day. There were specific rituals, each of them communicating and embodying certain aspects of the historical event. It is one thing to just have a party, but a celebration carries meaning when the WHAT we do helps to communicate the WHY we are doing it. On this important day in American history, let us be mindful of what we do and why we do it.
Prayer: For a nation that has done good things and has the potential for even greater good, we ask for your guidance, O Lord.
