Scripture: 1st Corinthians 9:19
For though I am free with respect to all, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I might win more of them.
Thought for the Day: I know that pride and arrogance can be very dangerous, but I am very proud of our church Elders here at Cypress Creek Christian Church. Discussions around the welcoming of those in the LGBT community, and of course, the recent Supreme Court Ruling for same-sex marriage, have caused incredible friction in some churches. For people who have been called to put love first in all things, Christians are quite often the most judgmental and mean-spirited folks around. The last two Elders’ meetings have created opportunities for good discussion, and guess what? We are not of the same mind. There wasn’t just two different opinions, but a kaleidoscope of perspectives and viewpoints. Yet no one stormed out of the meeting; no one called someone a bad name; no one belittled another person; no one threatened to leave the church. Rev. Dr. Mark Whitten led a wonderful and informative discussion about homosexuality and the church, and he has offered to do a four week study for the entire congregation. I hope, for the sake of Christianity, the church can model respect and live into the conviction of a God whose love is given unconditionally and who expects the church to do the same. More information about the study coming soon!
Prayer: Let love rule in all that we do, My Gracious Lord, and may respect and humility be the tools by which we live in community. Amen.
