Thought for the Day: It was 50 years ago this month that President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The bill outlawed segregation, but also included an amendment that gave equal rights to women. It’s interesting that the amendment was added by a Representative who, it is thought, added it in hopes that it would help to defeat the bill that he in fact opposed. If this is true, his idea backfired. Though the Apostle Paul only included three areas of historical division and inequality, I have a feeling that today he would include many more. I guess the question I continue to ask is, “What part of one do we not understand?”
Prayer: Holy God, continue to lead us in the ways of understanding and reconciliation so we can reveal the unity of your kingdom. Amen.
