Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Proverbs 12:17
Whoever speaks the truth gives honest evidence, but a false witness speaks deceitfully.

Thought for the Day: A while back, my son and I were watching TV when a commercial came on for a new cream to get rid of stretch marks.  I jokingly asked Zach, “Do I need to get some of that?”  He said with all seriousness, “Just for your face.”  You always have to be careful when you ask a question because you might receive an answer you didn’t want to hear.  There is a balance between telling the truth and being compassionate. The line shouldn’t be difficult to find, but it often is. At the end of the day, love must be our guide. We must speak through love and with a vision for love. Though I hope people will speak the truth to me when I truly need to hear it, I also pray that they will choose to speak through love and with a vision for love.

Prayer: Not only should I speak with love, O Lord, but I also desire your help so I may graciously hear the honest words others speak to me…but honest words spoken in love.  Amen.
