Thought for the Day: A colleague in ministry, Rev. Courtney Richards, wrote the following:
If we spent as much time DOING ministry
as we spend wringing our hands ABOUT ministry,
we’d have a lot less about which
to wring our hands in the first place.
Courtney is so on target with her words, and I believe the church has quite often been wringing its hands over things of little concern while ignoring the issues of great concern. Jesus chastised religious leaders on more than one occasion about their hyper-focus on the insignificant, while the weightier matters were utterly ignored. It’s funny how a focus on the weightier matters has our hands so busy doing good works that there is not time for wringing.
Prayer: Keep me focused, Mighty God, on the things that are of importance to you: people, lost people, hungry people, suffering people, frightened people… all people. Amen.
