Scripture: Colossians 3:2
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth…
Thought for the Day: As most of you know, we returned from vacation earlier this week. Coming into a hot house (we had raised the AC to 80 degrees) reminded me how six years ago we came home from vacation to find that our AC was not working. I don’t know how you would have reacted, but my immediate reaction was a kind of doomsday attitude as if the sky were falling. Paul reminds his people of what is important and where to keep one’s focus. With our minds on divine things, the smaller stuff often comes together with ease. I think it’s Paul’s way of saying, “You don’t need to sweat the small stuff when your heart is set on the awesome nature of God.” Well guess what – we returned home this time to find the AC working well once I lowered the temperature to 77, but the dishwasher is not working. After a deep breath, I was pleased that I did not go into a doomsday attitude. If I have to hand wash dishes for a week or so, it is not the end of the world.
Prayer: Ever-present God, when the usual difficulties of life appear, assist me in keeping my focus on you. Amen.
