Scripture: Psalm 3:3
Many are saying to me, “There is no help for you in God.”
Thought for the Day: There are many books on the market today attempting to prove the existence of God or demonstrate a rational case for the truth of Christ. I find such books to be useless if not downright damaging to Christianity. Some of the logic in these books goes like this: I believe in God because God told us to believe in God. That might be a truthful statement for someone who already believes in God, but the basic premise assumes the existence of God to prove the existence of God…not the best argument for an atheist. More importantly, is Christianity a religion based in faith? I say, Yes! Is Christianity a religion that commits itself to what many would call the irrational (for example: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, turn the other cheek, the hero of the story is the guy who humbled himself and got killed)? I say, Yes! There are many who do not expect to encounter God in times of trouble because they don’t believe in God. At that point, we should not waste our time trying to rationally prove something that is based in faith and often assumes the irrational. Instead, we should simply live our lives loudly as people who believe in a God who comes alongside the helpless. The lives of faithful people are the best evidence for faith.
Prayer: You have been kind and gracious to me, O Lord, and I serve you by choosing to serve others. Amen.
