Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Mark 10:22 (the Message)
The man’s face clouded over. This was the last thing he expected to hear, and he walked off with a heavy heart. He was holding on tight to a lot of things, and not about to let go.

Thought for the Day: For the last 25 years, Parker Palmer has been a voice ever so gently nudging me with a comforting spirit into some uncomfortable places.  A friend posted the following quote that has been rattling around in my head for more than a week.  Palmer wrote,  “The power of a fully lived life or a truly learned mind is not a power to be sought or contrived. It comes only as we let go of what we possess and find ourselves possessed by a truth greater than our own.”  I think a lot of us are pretty convinced we’ve let go of everything Jesus would want us to let go of, but in reading both the Gospels and little more Parker Palmer, I’m becoming more convinced that most of us haven’t even come close… and I’m including myself.

Prayer: Merciful God, push me to look deeply within myself to see what is working and what is not.  There must be a lot of unnecessary stuff that is keeping me from you, and in keeping me from you, I am not keeping to the teachings of Jesus which is keeping others from living the teachings of Jesus.  Amen.
