Scripture: Colossians 1:3-6
In our prayers for you we always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. You have heard of this hope before in the word of the truth, the gospel that has come to you. Just as it is bearing fruit and growing in the whole world, so it has been bearing fruit among yourselves from the day you heard it and truly comprehended the grace of God.
Thought for the Day: Rev. Rebecca Hale is a colleague in ministry with whom I have the greatest respect. The other day, Rebecca wrote on Facebook (I don’t know if it is original with her), “A new day dawns and I am once again practicing my purpose.” I love the attitude expressed in those words. There is a sense of eagerness for the day, along with a realization that eagerness tied to God’s hope can make great things happen. For the Apostle Paul, the hope he experienced through the Gospel was bearing fruit and expanding out further and further into the world. That hope remains an untapped power until faithful and eager people choose to embrace it. In that moment, it builds upon itself and shapes people who awake every morning to a sense of purpose from God through partnership with God.
Prayer: Allow your hope, the Gospel Vision, to come alive through my growing relationship with you, O Lord of my life. Amen.
