Scripture: 1st Thessalonians 5:18
…give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Thought for the Day: Rev. Bruce Barkhauer is Director of the Center for Faith and Giving. It is the stewardship education ministry of the Office of General Minister and President (our denominational office in Indianapolis). Bruce will be at Cypress Creek Christian Church on the weekend of October 19-20 to teach and encourage us in the area of stewardship. In a recent Facebook post, Bruce referenced the words of, Melody Beattie, “Gratitude turns what we have into enough.” After reading those words, I did know whether or not I believed them. Did I want to believe them? How does saying thanks turn what wasn’t enough into enough? Maybe it has something to do with what I heard a preacher once say, “Appreciation creates a depreciation in the temptation of self-preservation.”
Prayer: Thanks, Lord, for all you do. May I continue to strive toward a greater understanding of what true gratitude means in my life, an attitude the helps me focus more fully upon you. Amen.
