Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Psalm 48:1-3
In the city belonging to our God, the LORD is great and so worthy of praise! His holy mountain is a beautiful summit, the joy of the whole world. Mount Zion, in the far north, is the city of the great king. God is in its fortifications, revealing himself as a place of safety.

Thought for the Day: Have you ever walked into a place and immediately felt the presence of God in a palpable way? In my own life, I have had those experiences in part because of the expectation I had in advance of entering that space. There have been other moments, though not as often, when I was caught off guard by an unexpected display of the Holy. For the Israelites, the very name Jerusalem carried with it such a heighten expectancy that God’s presence could not be ignored. There are days when I really need and appreciate walking into a place already expecting to feel God, but I must confess that I like it when I’m left a little dumbfounded by a God who makes an unannounced and unrehearsed appearance. It is a good reminder of how God is there even when I’m not looking.

Prayer: I appreciate you finding ways to meet me in my life, O Holy God. Whether I’m expecting that encounter or not, I believe your presence will bring with it joy, hope and unceasing love. Amen.

A BIG THANK YOU

I want to thank the folks of Cypress Creek
for recognizing my 5th anniversary at the church.

The beautiful chalice will be a wonderful reminder of this day.
