Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Psalm 128:2
You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall go well with you.

Thought for the Day: In a time when the economy seems to be moving ahead, there are still many who feel as if they are being left behind.  President Calvin Coolidge once said, “When a great many people are unable to find work, unemployment results.”  I’m no economist, but that sounds like someone who is stating the obvious.  Similar things are said today, and they have a ring of insensitivity.  It’s one thing to share theories or offer statistics, but we must always remember that behind any statements around unemployment are human beings and families who are frightened about the future.  On this labor day weekend, let us be mindful of all those struggling to see the fruit of their labor.  Though some think otherwise, almost everyone who is looking for a job is not lazy or just milking the system.  In our encouragement and support, their fears are reduced and their hope begins to build.

Prayer: Lord, I pray for all who are employed along with those who desire employment.  We are always a better nation when our sisters and brothers are able to enjoy the fruit of their labor.  Amen.
