Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Luke 4:43
But Jesus said to them, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose.”

Thought for the Day: On this day in the year 590, the consecration of Pope Gregory occurred.  He was a man who was considered to have done many great things for the faith, and for that reason, he was canonized as a saint shortly after his death.  He is remembered for the Gregorian Mission, an evangelistic journey to England.  It was very successful, and what should be appreciated most was how the church did not use the sword or other such tactics to bring conversion.  One of the great sins of the church has been the use of methods contrary to the ways of Jesus in hopes of bringing people to the ways of Jesus.  Oh sure, an evaluation based strictly on numbers, violence and threat of violence did produce.  But Jesus was not looking for those who changed allegiance out of fear, but a true conversion instigated by love.

Prayer: Allow me to preach a good message of your love, Lord, and hopefully my less than stellar words don’t take away from what should be my living example.  Amen.
