Scripture: Isaiah 43:19
I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Thought for the Day: Today, I offer you these words from from the Catholic priest and philosopher, Ivan Illich. He wrote:
Neither revolution nor reformation can ultimately change a society, rather you must tell a new powerful tale, one so persuasive that it sweeps away the old myths and becomes the preferred story…one so inclusive that it gathers all the bits of our past and our present into a coherent whole, one that even shines some light into the future so that we can take the next step…If you want to change a society, then you have to tell an alternative story.
Cypress Creek Christian Church has a marvelous story 40 years in the making, but today begins a new story. This new story will have bits and pieces of the past, but it will not be defined or limited by what has occurred. Instead, it shall be a new story collaboratively composed by both the Spirit and those seeking the guidance of the Spirit. This new story will allow us to shape a new generation with the message of a God who first loved us.
Prayer: We listen for a word from you, O Living Word. We are listening – for we believe that you have something to say to this moment in history. We are listening – for you are a God who speaks to every generation with relevance and purpose. Amen.
