Scripture: Matthew 13:24
He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to someone who sowed good seed in his field…”
Thought for the Day: The actor, Wentworth Miller, said: “The artistry and the creativity in a story are better than any drugs.” Jesus knew the capacity of a good story to provide a wonderful ride within the human imagination, but this narrative experience was more than an escape from reality. In fact, it announced a new reality over and against the false one in which people were living. Stories captivate and entertain, but they also become a window through which new worlds are seen. And when we are allowed to glimpse that new world, our perception of reality is challenged and rethought. Though a good storyteller, like Jesus, can entertain the members of his or her audience without them feeling what is often a stinging assault on current ways of living. The audience is gently shaped into a new worldview.
Prayer: Tell me one of your stories, O Lord, so I can once again glimpse the world as you intended it to be. Amen.
