Scripture: Exodus 3:2-5
There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed. Then Moses said, “I must turn aside and look at this great sight, and see why the bush is not burned up.” When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then he said, “Come no closer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.”
Thought for the Day: My sister, Stephanie, directed me to the words of poet Elizabeth Browning who wrote “Earth’s crammed with heaven, and every common bush afire with God: But only he who sees takes off his shoes.” Over the last couple of weeks during my Wednesday studies, I have focused on an awareness or attentiveness to God who is present to us – even in those moments we would not traditionally define as holy. The contemporary song, “Open the Eyes of My Heart” says it all. Let us be awakened to God’s presence in every moment of life, awakened to how each moment is crammed full with heaven.
Prayer: Where my expectations hinder my ability to perceive you, O Lord of Life, I ask you to change my expectations. Make me more attentive to you and your amazing love. Amen.
