Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Job 21:3
Bear with me, and I will speak; then after I have spoken, mock on.

Thought for the Day: In the Acknowledgements of his book, The Last Word and the Word After That, Brian McLaren says, “To my critics, thanks for the times you offer your feedback with kindness, because you help me learn things I wouldn’t learn without you.  And thanks for the times you offer your critique without kindness, because then you challenge me to grow in character.”  Too often we run from those who mock our ideas or criticize our thoughts, but both Job and Brian recognize that there will always be opposition.  So instead of fighting it, allow yourself to become a better person because of it. Brian just released his newest book, Why did Jesus, Moses, the Buddha, and Mohammed Cross the Road?  I will begin an online discussion with this new book starting next week.

Prayer: Lord, may the critics not deflate my sense of self worth, but give me reason to continue to seek passionately what is good…even when it means a change because my critics happen to be right.  Amen.
