Ecclesiological Etchings

Blog_Heading566145

Scripture: Matthew 13:33
Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.”

Thought for the Day: Jesus never laid out a strategy for building the Kingdom of God.  Instead, he told stories (parables).  Strategies move things in the right direction, while stories demonstrate right values and build right relationships.  When Jesus declared the Kingdom of God/heaven was near (or at hand), it wasn’t something for which Christians needed to strategize, but embrace.  The Kingdom of God does not need tactics through which it will be achieved.  The Kingdom of God has already been made real in Jesus Christ.  The stories/parables become the means by which we better perceive the kingdom-life that is available in all relationships.

Prayer: O God whose reign was made visible in Jesus, help me to learn his gracious ways so they can become my ways.  Amen.

  1. I too often attempt to approach my spirituality as if it needed a business like plan to accomplish growth……whereas opening up my heart is what was really needed.
